Our target
We are building this site to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. Accessibility is part of the design system, not a pass at the end: every component carries its focus order, names, states and contrast.
What is in place
Every page works by keyboard alone, with a visible focus ring and skip links. Text, controls and data marks meet the AA contrast ratios. Meaning is never carried by colour alone: a rating is a word, a highlight has a rule, a current tab has a rule. Text reflows to 320 px and stays readable at 200 per cent zoom.
Known limitations
The interactive map is a convenience, not the only way to the data: every school on it is also in the list beside it, with the same name, rating and fees, so nothing on the map is unavailable to a screen reader or to keyboard use. No screen-reader pass has been run on any part of this site yet: we test with automated checks and with the keyboard in Chrome and Firefox, and Safari keyboard use is untested too. Windows High Contrast mode has only been checked in a browser emulation, not on Windows, and some marks may lose their tint there. A change you make on the map or in the search can be undone for ten seconds from the message that confirms it, and afterwards with your browser’s Back button, which has no time limit. Arabic is prepared but not released, so the interface is English only.
