Where to talk to other parents about Dubai schools
Before a school visit, most families in Dubai ask other parents: in the school's own parent council, in a Facebook group for their area, or in a Telegram or WhatsApp chat in their own language. This guide lists the places that are active, what each is good for and how to get in.

Start with your own school
The first place to ask is the school itself. Many private schools in Dubai have a parents' association, a parent council or a «Friends of» group, and several of the ones we opened run a coffee morning for new families at the start of term. The parents there have the same timetable, the same fee letter and the same bus route you are asking about, so the answers are specific.
Each school describes its own way in on its website: in many schools every parent is a member automatically; in others you write to the association, speak to a class representative, or come to a meeting. The table lists the schools whose parent-council pages we opened and the date we opened them. It is not a judgement on any school; a school that is not here may simply keep its page behind a parent login.

How this is worked out
Names as the school writes them; pages opened on the date in the row.In Indian- and Philippine-curriculum schools the pattern is usually a Parent Forum or Focus Group by class, with the class WhatsApp run by form representatives; ask the school office who your representative is.
Parent groups also do practical things. In 2026 a Telegram group run by one school's parent committee, with more than 400 members, was swapping uniform and textbooks, and a donated-uniform shop at another school grew out of a WhatsApp group (Khaleej Times, 6 September 2026).
Class WhatsApp groups sit inside this first layer, and they have the most rules. From 2026–27 several schools in the UAE have set rules for their parent–teacher WhatsApp groups: announcements and reminders only, individual matters through the school's official channels, no disputes in the group (lepetitjournal Dubai, 14 September 2026). Class groups run by parents sit beside the school's own groups; the way into a parents' group is the parent council or a parent in the same year group.
On the official side, KHDA has a Dubai Parents Council for 2026–27: 15 parents chosen from 152 applications, presented on 7 October 2026 (Gulf News, 8 June 2026; KHDA, 7 October 2026). It is a policy body, not a place to ask about a school.
If you are looking at a school's KHDA rating before you ask its parents about it, the year of the rating matters; see what a KHDA rating year means.

How parent groups in Dubai are organised
Parents in Dubai compare schools in three kinds of places: the school's own parent council and class WhatsApp groups, Facebook groups for an area or for the whole city, and chats in their own language, mostly on Telegram and Facebook. Most are private; the way in is to apply and answer the joining questions.
Think of three layers.
- School and class. Parent councils and class WhatsApp groups. Closed, specific, and the only place where someone knows whether Year 3 is full this term.
- Area. Facebook groups for a community (Arabian Ranches, Mirdif, the Marina) and the WhatsApp groups that branch off them for play dates, car pools and uniform. Neighbourhoods, buildings and villa clusters have their own WhatsApp groups too: Silicon Oasis, Al Furjan and The Greens were named as examples in Gulf News on 2 March 2026.
- Language and community. Telegram for Russian-speaking families, Facebook and Instagram-led WhatsApp communities for Indian, Filipino and Arab families, an association for French families. English-speaking parents are on Facebook and WhatsApp rather than Telegram.
Most of these groups are private. When you apply, you are usually asked two or three questions: where you live, whether you are a parent, sometimes which school. Answer them plainly; admins remove accounts that do not.
You will not find WhatsApp invite links on this page. Public lists of «Dubai parents WhatsApp group links» are built by link farms and fill with spam within days; a group that is worth joining hands its link over in person, through the parent council, through a residents' group or through a community association.
Forums you can read without joining
These are open to read; you need an account only to post. They are the archive of «schools near X» questions going back years, so search before you ask.

Smaller circles
Dad Club DXB moves from Instagram to WhatsApp, with meet-ups and sport: «over 500» active participants according to emirates247 (12 August 2026), and Instagram around 4,400 (8 October 2026). Single Parents Society runs on Instagram and events, and fathers are welcome; 14 mothers went on a retreat in March 2026 (Gulf News, 16 January 2026). Screen-Free Parenting Community has Instagram around 14,000 (8 October 2026) and «more than 150 active mothers» (Khaleej Times, 8 April 2026). Teenagers in Dubai is in the French-speaking families table.

School Talk: UAE is a podcast about Dubai schools (latest episode around February 2026; no new episodes when we looked, 8 October 2026). Next of Kin: The Podcast ran episode 40, «How to Choose a School in Dubai», on 19 November 2024; its Kin Club WhatsApp link is in the episode notes, and we have not read the rules inside (Instagram around 3,200, 8 October 2026).
For questions in person, the Independent Schools Show Dubai is on Saturday 21 November 2026, 09:30 to 14:30, at the Sheraton Hotel, Mall of the Emirates; registration, no ticket charge. Its seminars lean towards British boarding (10:00 Dubai parents on British boarding; 11:00 IB, A Levels or BTECs; 12:00 8+, 11+, 13+ or 16+; 13:00 UAE education vs UK boarding). For university and boarding questions the school's counsellor is the first stop.
Groups by area
Most communities in Dubai with more than a few hundred villas have a Facebook group, and many have a mothers' group beside it. The ones we know of are private and publish neither their size nor a public link, so this section gives a rule rather than a list.
How to find your area's group:
- Search Facebook for «[community] mums», «[community] residents» or «[community] community», using the developer's name for the community (for example the name on your tenancy contract).
- Apply and answer the joining questions honestly; most ask for your building or street.
- Once in, search the group for «school» before posting; the question has usually been asked already this term.
- Ask in your building or cluster WhatsApp as well; it is often where the area group's link is passed on.
The one area chat we could open is on Telegram: Dubai Creek Harbour Community (Russian, English and other languages, by the chat's own title; general; around 2,900 members, t.me, 9 October 2026).
Before you ask «which schools are near us», look at the map for the area, so your question names two or three schools rather than a district:
Area mothers' groups for the Marina, JBR, the Palm, Arabian Ranches, Mirdif and JVC are named in older press reports; we list them only once we have opened them this year.
Groups by language
This is where families from one country find each other. A line that says «general» means schools are one topic among many, and you search the chat for «школа» or «school».

Parent groups for children of determination are mostly run by clinics, centres and associations rather than by parents on Facebook, so the group usually has a professional in the room. Ask your child's therapy centre whether it runs a parent group; many do.

Home education
Families who teach at home gather in the Homeschooling thread inside Expat Mums Dubai (see Citywide communities). This page says nothing about the rules for home education in Dubai; ask KHDA directly for those.
How to ask a question that gets useful answers
«Which school is good?» gets silence or a plug for the writer's own school. A question with four facts in it gets real answers, often the same day. Put these in:
- The year group, not the age. In Dubai the year group follows the UAE Ministry of Education's cut-off date, and a child can land a year higher than at home. Work it out first: Which year group is my child in?
- The area, with two or three schools named. «Near JVC» gets guesses; «between School A and School B, we live in JVC» gets parents of both. Find them on the map.
- The budget, as a yearly tuition figure for the year group. Tuition rises by year group, so «around 50 thousand» means different things in FS1 and Year 9. Dubai School Atlas shows each school's fee for a named year group and the year of its KHDA rating; bring those two numbers into the question: fees by year group, cost planner. If an employer pays part of it: education allowance guide.
- The KHDA rating with its year. «Outstanding» means one thing in 2019 and another after the inspections restarted; say which year you saw: what a rating year means.
Then put the two or three schools side by side before you post, so the question is about the difference between them: Compare and your shortlist.
A short example of a question that works: «Moving to Dubai Hills in August. Daughter born March 2020, so Year 3 in September 2027 (the 31 December rule). Budget AED 70,000 a year tuition. Shortlisted X and Y; both rated Good in 2025. Anyone with a child in Year 3 at either: how long is the waiting list, and does the bus reach Dubai Hills?»
Reading parent advice carefully
Four habits make forum advice useful rather than misleading.
- One family is one data point. A thread of five complaints about a school with 2,000 pupils is five families. Look for the pattern across years, not the loudest post.
- Check the date. A head teacher, a fee structure and a KHDA rating can all change in two years. A 2022 post describes a 2022 school.
- Compare with the inspection report of the same year. Every school profile on this site summarises its KHDA report and gives the rating year; read the summary beside the thread. Find a school's profile.
- Ask, do not accuse. Questions get answers; accusations about a named school or person get a thread closed, and in the UAE a public accusation can also carry consequences for the writer, whether or not it is true. «Has anyone had a child in Year 9 here recently?» works; «this school is a disgrace» does not.
Members' posts in a closed group are not public. Do not screenshot them into another group, and do not quote them to a school.
About this list
Every row on this page was opened by us on the date shown, on t.me, instagram.com or the community's own site, or is backed by a named publication within the last twelve months. Groups we could not open, or whose last published figure is older than a year, are not here, even when they are large. Member counts are rounded and change daily; the date beside each is the day we read it.
For private groups we show the name and the way in, never the content. We do not list WhatsApp invite links, admins' names or members' email addresses.
Groups close, rename and change their rules. We re-check the whole page before each admissions peak. If you run a community and want your row changed or removed, write to us at contact@orpitek.com from an address on your community's site or page; we change or remove the row within five working days. Corrections to the site are listed on the corrections page.
Questions families ask
Is there a WhatsApp group for parents of a particular school?
Usually yes, and usually more than one: a class group and a year group, sometimes a parent-council group. They are run by parents, not by the school, so the way in is the school's parent council or a parent in the same year group. From 2026–27 several schools have set rules for their parent–teacher groups (announcements and reminders only, individual matters through the school's official channels). Lists of invite links on the open web are not a safe way to find one.
Which online group is actually about choosing a school?
Expat Mums Dubai has a thread set aside for Dubai Schools & Nurseries, and that is the only citywide community we found with one (checked 8 October 2026). The large mothers' groups carry school threads inside a wider feed; search before you post. Among Russian-speaking chats, ДУБАЙ Родители и Дети and Школы Дубая are built around schools. Area groups answer «schools near X».
I am still in the UK. Where do families ask before they move?
Mumsnet's Living overseas and Private school boards carry Dubai threads most years, and ExpatWoman's Dubai forum is the archive of «schools near X» questions going back years. Both can be read without joining. Read the thread from last autumn first; the same questions come round each season. Then check the year group and fees here before you post, so your question is specific.
Can I ask other parents about a particular school by name?
You can ask. Keep it a question about facts (the year group, the area, the fee you have seen, the year of the KHDA rating) rather than a verdict on the school or on named staff: a question gets answers, a public accusation can get the thread closed and, in the UAE, can have consequences for the person who wrote it. Set any answer beside the school's inspection report for the same year, which its profile on this site summarises. One family's experience is one data point.
Will parents in a group know whether a year group is full, or what the waiting-list fee is?
Parents in a school's own groups often know whether a year group is full this term and how the waiting list has moved; that is the main reason to find the parent council first. A waiting-list or registration fee is the school's own published figure, so take it from the school's admissions page rather than from a thread.
Does KHDA have a parents' group?
KHDA has a Dubai Parents Council for 2026–27: 15 parents from private schools, chosen from 152 applications, presented on 7 October 2026 (Gulf News, 8 June 2026; KHDA, 7 October 2026). It is a policy body that advises the regulator, not a forum where you can ask about a school.
Есть ли русскоязычный чат, где обсуждают школы Дубая? (Is there a Russian-speaking chat about Dubai schools?)
Yes. The Telegram chat «ДУБАЙ Родители и Дети» (Dubai Parents and Children) is the largest Russian-speaking parents' chat we found, around 18,000 members on 9 October 2026, with schools and nurseries as its main topic; «Школы Дубая» (Dubai Schools) is smaller and admits education topics only. The big city chats also carry school threads; search «школа». All names and links are in Groups by language.
